The exhibitional project “Story in a Suitcase” invites the public to regard the anecdotes of smaller or bigger things through artefacts preserved in travelling protective ‘garments’. Charged with messages, the ceramic works narrate events occurring in the artists՚ studios, reveal personalities and fantastic pursuits.
We can approach the theme qua a puzzle of multiple elements put together in a limited space allowing their exploration in the very ‘precinct’ of the transportation object, or suggests message interpretations via installations developed in the outer space.
Romana Mateiaș
When Marcel Duchamp used to affirm that “Everything important that I have done can be put into a little suitcase”, referring to his series of works ‘Boîte-en-valise’, he didn’t mean any undervaluation. He just considered the vessel – the suitcase – which contained the miniatures of his own works deserving to be reproduced and put together like a private exclusive collection.
Readymade, mix media, portable accessory, sculptural or modular object, recipient, assemblage, Altered Art, two- and three-dimensional installations, the ceramic works are displayed in the exhibition in suitcases, bags or transport boxes.
