Polywaves is a ceramic installation synthesising sight, touch and hearing. The three senses are connected by the artist through an interactive, immersive performance. She uses ceramic clay to generate sound, and the sound helps Delia Maxim to shape her sculptures.
The ceramic installation is surrounded by a sound environment created on the spot. Delia Maxim moulds the clay, and the mere touch of her sculptures generates music. The clay object is connected to a system of sensors which respond to the touch by delivering electronic signals, MIDI notes, to the musician. Activated by artist՚s and bystanders՚ touch, the sensors, embedded in the work, trigger sounds, and everybody present can ‘experience’ the artefact via touch and sound.
The bystanders can step in by touching the displayed objects, and their gesture will generate tunes and sounds. Consequently, the exhibition will be turned into a musical dialogue between artists and bystanders.
Musician Jozsef Iszlai will accompany the ‘instant’ art compositions with his instruments. He will develop digital textures, will improvise chords and structure the notes; he will develop his music according to what is happening during the performance.
