LETTER
January 19 - February 16, 2012
The letter, the epistle and the missive have always been a means of visual communication; they have acquired different exquisite, sometimes original shapes, according to the way civilization has developed. Put down on different materials – stone, ceramics, leather, papirus or paper –, rendered in digital format, they reveal both humankind’s creative spirit and the token of time. The aim of this exhibition is to display the new visual interpretations of this beautiful and inexhaustible theme, by using ceramics and mixed media.
Curatorial text: Cristina Popescu Russu Ceramics is, par excellence, a hard and fragile material. The fluid shapes it can take represent a means of transcending the ceramic work of art from the mineral realm, given by its composition as such, to a different aeon. The artist acts between these two reference points, (s)he is the priest(ess) of certain specific technologic rituals in which the prints, properly and figuratively incribed in the matter, are unique and irrepeatable. Threfore, writing is present in this (somehow) homonimous exhibition at morphologic, semantic and semiotic level. The diversity of works, the experimental component, sometimes, the (al)chemical secret bear the message that the arts of fire – in this very case, ceramics – are far from having exhausted their saying.
