Galateea Gallery invites you to take part in the varnishing of REUNITING, an exhibition displaying the latest works made by the ceramic artists Gloria Grati and Nicolae Moldovan. The event is going to take place on the 18th of September 2017, at 6 p.m.
The exhibition is also open on October 6, 2017, on the White Night of the Galleries (NAG). Gloria Grati (b. 1972), at present, a lecturer at the West University in Timișoara, Romania, searches and experiments passionately ceramics and glass, artefacts and symbology. She creates plain objects of clay reminding those discovered in some archaeological sites. In ceramics she approaches, as shapes, the sphere (a symbol of the Universe), the square (a token of the Earth) or the octogram (a symbol of regeneration), imprinted, through drawing or volume, with eyes, wings and circles able to convey mysterious messages to the technologized modern world. Gloria's works, as well as her PhD thesis, entitled The Archaic Anthropomorphism and Contemporary Artistic Demarche, arouses meditation. Nicolae Moldovan (b. 1970), a ceramic sculptor endowed with a great power of creation and invention, has developed an original style tenaciously wrought in time. Since 2015 he is a member of the International Academy of Ceramics in Geneva, Switzerland. His clay or stoneware shapes, either engobed and/or vitrified, sometimes inlaid with an iron-nail network, look spectacular due to their simplicity and harmonious assemblage. In "Retrievals", Nicolae displays pieces created last summer at the International Ceramic Studio in Kecskemét, Hungary, where he, together with other 17 internationally renown ceramicists, was a special guest of the workshop organized on the 40th anniversary of this center, unique in Eastern Europe. From the solo exhibition "The Minimal Shape", passing through "The Immaculate Shape" and "Twinned Shapes", up to "Retrievals", Nicolae Moldovan shows he has created a direction in sculpture ceramics.
