Nordic natures - 01.07 – 30.07.2021
Merja Castrén şi Anna-Kaisa Haanaho, Finland
Opening : 01.07.2021
Curator: Anca Vintilă Dragu
Galateea Contemporary Art is part of the Union of Visual Artists in Romania that aims to promote romanian and international ceramic art.
We invite you to join us for the opening reception of the „Nordic Nature” exhibition of two finnish ceramic artists: Merja Castrén and Anna-Kaisa Haanaho, on 1st July 2021, 19:00h.
The collaboration and dialogue between Romanian and international ceramics are a desideratum of our gallery and this time we have two artists from Finland to share with us their creative endeavour and preoccupations.
The common theme that reunites the two artists within the current exhibition is the nordic nature with its colors, phenomena and their heritage that can be seen in different interpretation in their art.
Merja Castrén
Is an artist for whom nature and ecology are part of everyday life. In her projects she is inspired by Lapland, her second home, by the vast wilderness, the magnificent midnight sun and the silence.
Through her art she wants to draw public’s attention to the vulnerability of nature. She usually works with clay and glass and whenever possible with recycled materials.
Merja Castrén studied Glass & Ceramics Design at the Häme University of Applied Sciences, Hämeenlinna, Finland and has a Master of Science at the University of Technology, Helsinki.
Anna-Kaisa Haanaho
Her artistic process is guided by intuition and play. She’s inspired by nature and material experimentation and she often addresses critical issues related to human connection with nature.
Anna-Kaisa holds a BA degree in Glass & Ceramics Design from Häme University of Applied Sciences in Hämeenlinna, Finland.
The common theme that reunites the two artists within the current exhibition is the Nordic nature with its colors, phenomena and their heritage that can be seen in different interpretation in their art.
