Galateea Contemporary Art invites you on Tuesday, February 13, 2018, at 7 p.m., to attend the varnishing of the exhibition "L ‒ Lumină - Light - Lumière - Luz - Licht”.
Exhibitor: Andreea Brăescu
Curator: Cristina Bolborea
The exhibition "L ‒ Lumină - Light - Lumière - Luz - Licht“, the porcelain installation Andreea Brăescu (b. 1985) ‒ a graduate, in 2008, of the National University of Arts in Bucharest ‒ presents, is but a pulsation, a lisp, a thrill. Or, maybe, it could sometimes be a tourbillon, a light swirl. A wave propagated towards the others within the invisible and subtle ocean we stay. The energy packs travel towards us just like a river of particles born out of the shiny and meaty atoms of the gingko leaves.
Yet how could we define light, this entity one cannot logically, wholly and exactly outline? Each group of craftsmen or of artists could characterize light according to their trade. Thus, the physicist pretends light is ʺan electromagnetic radiation or, in other words, a vibration of this field, accompanied by the material particles called photons”; the biologist considers light the ʺsource of oxygen the plants create for the benefit of other beings, one of the all-important factors in the achievement of plants’ photosynthesisʺ; the priest preaches: “Just look around and see the miraculous drops God has made through the light He did unbind in the first day of Creation”; whereas the artist knows that light is merely perceived through the energy it delivers, that it is a way through which the mind gives a meaning to things.
ʺI create luminous installations that inspirit the space ‒ a subtle play between understanding and feeling”, says the artist. ʺThe atom of this work is the gingko leaf, which helps me made an installation aiming to catch the essence of the living nature: Light and Movement. That is, I try to bring nature in the urban world. The installation goes beyond the functional objective of illuminating the environment, it defines the shape through the light and turns it into a luminous sculpture.”
With her luminous sculpture, Andreea makes us vibrate higher and become more compatible, more connected to outer energies.
”And in the sough of the foliage light / You make me an innocent child anew.”
