The space of the Galateea gallery in Bucharest, which hosts Dana Catona's most recent personal work, becomes for her anthropomorphic creatures, made of glazed ceramics and fired at 1020° a space-shelter, (a) house, grotto, fiction-dwelling or land of verse, perhaps a cloud ? Looking at them, it's like a form of nostalgia that we carry with us from antediluvian times, since we were looking while sitting around the fire, the answer to the question: what is wrong with us in this world?
The parietal compositions within the exhibition are built by joining in Indian row some small human silhouettes that line up in lines/phrases/verses that tell about the essence of human creation, about emotions and the universality of ideas rather than about everyday reality. The characters emerge from the present imaginary in the poems written by the artist about herself, the assembly itself or within the group, the tribe, the city, the world, the eternal human.
Placed like the lines written in a notebook, like the lines in a volume of poems, the clay humanoids of the artist become graphic signs, cuneiforms, hieroglyphs, Roman and Greek letters, Arabic numerals, punctuation marks, icons. Verses written through stone statuettes strung together.
