GHEORGHE CRĂCIUN

Ceramics was born by bringging together the primordial elements: earth, water and fire.
We actualy start with quite a docile material - the clay, which lets itself be modelled having at the same time its own memory, and finally goes to the test of fire. The clay allows me to play with it, to build and also hide in it my own ideas. When you perform wheel throwing or free hand building, this sort of leads you into feeling a bit like a demiurg (a creator). I had the priviledge of being part of the start up of what was going to be called "the Cluj ceramic school"; first I embraced glass art but in parallel I worked in ceramics as well, depending on the circumstances. This allowed me to borrow and intertwine techniques dealing with the FORM from both glass and ceramics. The materials force you to do that sometimes and this cross-inspiration might be surprisingly expressive. I could say that I am primarily interested in the FORM, using the technniques and technology of the art glass and also the more generous techniques of the ceramic art. I am definitely interested in the expression of the form, pushed to the grotesque if need be, on condition that it is capable of projecting a CONTENT. I have always tried to hide a content into a form, and refused to accept the term "decorative". |
