Cluj Bienale AWARDS 2015
November 12 - December 12, 2015
The International Ceramic Bienale at Cluj is a synergic action made of a series of simultaneous cultural events which, beside the artistic component, targets an intercultural dialogue, as well as an act of cultural education in the domain of visual arts. The expression of sensibility through ceramic medium stands for an ascendant trend in the context of international contemporary art. Observing the concept of cultural mobility, Galateea Gallery will house the prized works of the present edition. Beyond the cultural options of the jury members, the works, taken as a whole, illustrate the performances the artists have exercised along different directions and trends practised in contemporary ceramics.
Speaking about the everyday objects we surround ourselves by, the term “decorative narrative”, taken from Pauline Garvey’s anthropologic study related to household biography, is relevant. The trajectory of things show the way certain practices used in preserving and throwing away objects belong to the “narrative self”, a concept used and developed by the British sociologist Anthony Giddens. Though absent, man is present through specific objects, and from a sociological perspective, he is considered a rationalizing, not a rational being.
