Galateea Contemporary Art presents ”notes for a Landscape”, a solo exhibition of the artist Ovidiu Leuce, on view from November 19 to December 13, 2024. The opening event took place on Tuesday, November 19, at 7:00 PM, at Galateea Contemporary Art, located at Calea Victoriei 132, Bucharest. The inaugural address was delivered by the Professor and critic Ion Bogdan Lefter, with Anca Vintilă Dragu serving as the exhibition coordinator.
This exhibition showcases a collection of ceramic sculptures and five collages that encapsulate Ovidiu Leuce’s multidisciplinary approach, characterized by a seamless interplay between ceramics, painting, and drawing. The works emerge organically from one another, forming a cohesive artistic narrative. The ceramic sculptures, crafted in black clay, feature organic forms and are imbued with dark, earthy tones, evoking signs and symbols that suggest a potential interior landscape. As art critic Sorina Jecza observes, these are "forms that amalgamate kingdoms, vegetal suggestions that intersect with projections of a different order, creating the illusion of worlds plunged into the aseptic reality of the imaginary."
The exhibition’s spatial arrangement is meticulously designed to complement the gallery’s architecture. The sculptures are presented on a rigid black display structure reminiscent of an architectural model, specifically conceived for this project. This display arrangement evokes the rhythm and sequences of a musical score, drawing parallels between visual art and the temporal patterns of sound.
Notes for a Landscape invites viewers to explore the intersections of materiality, form, and imagination, offering a meditative reflection on the interplay between the organic and the constructed, the real and the imaginary.
