Ceramics has become a means of multidisciplinary expression, as it includes both the other art and non-art compartments. By launching the project „Guests in the Studio”, we wanted to show the potential of ceramic art as far as chromatics, plasticity and construction are concerned vs their use in painting, sculpture and architecture. The painters interacting for the first time with the ceramic material perceived it as a real challenge. Just like in any other art, a ceramic work is the result of a conceptual thinking, but here the approach is totally different. We encounter apparently contradictory aspects – not antagonic, but showing continuity: interior and exterior, shape and surface, image and object. Another extremely important element in ceramic art is time, which creates and imposes a certain dependency. The ceramic material requires a slow approach in different moments, from modelling to the final firing, which turns it into a resistant piece. Ceramics has not only physical or cultural features; it has been, is and will always be an element conveying spirituality. The artists invited to work in the ceramic studios – painters, sculptors and an architect – are acknowledged personalities for their genuine artistic sensibility. In this demarche and in a relatively short time, they succeeded to use stoneware, clay or porcelain as a support in exercising their means of expression, by evincing the versatility of these materials and re-imagining their multiple possibilities.
